How is the overall IELTS band calculated?+
It is the average of your four section scores (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking), rounded to the nearest whole or half band. An average ending in .25 rounds up to the next half band, and .75 rounds up to the next whole band — e.g. 6.25 → 6.5 and 6.75 → 7.0.
What IELTS band do I need to study abroad?+
Most UK, Australian and Canadian postgraduate programs ask for an overall 6.5 with no band below 6.0. Some undergraduate and pathway courses accept 6.0, while competitive programs want 7.0+. U2CAN matches your target band to the right universities.
